About Volunteer Canada

Volunteer Canada is the national voice for volunteerism in Canada. Since 1977, Volunteer Canada has been committed to supporting volunteerism and civic participation through ongoing programs and special projects.

National in scope, Volunteer Canada's board members, partners and members represent hundreds of different communities across Canada. Our membership includes over 86 volunteer centres established throughout the country in all provinces and the Yukon Territory. We also work in close collaboration with the federation of over 110 volunteer centres in Quebec. Managers and directors of volunteers represent a vital aspect of volunteerism in Canada and make up an important aspect of our organization's community.

Volunteer Canada is a national organization engaged in the promotion of volunteerism across Canada. As a national leader, we strive to ensure that volunteer efforts are promoted, recognized, supported and safeguarded. By developing resources and national initiatives, Volunteer Canada actively engages in research, training and promotional campaigns to increase community participation and provide leadership on issues and trends in the Canadian volunteer movement.

A Message from the President of Volunteer Canada

National Volunteer Week (NVW), April 19 to April 25, is the biggest celebration of volunteers and volunteerism this country has and Volunteer Canada is taking the lead on the celebrations in 2009 with a campaign which will touch the hearts of volunteers and the people they impact.

The theme for the campaign – volunteers.  from comPASSION to action. – remains the same as last year’s, but with an emphasis on the passion that drives Canada’s volunteers to donate their time to better their communities and the lives of others.

The 2009 campaign is designed to support our members and other volunteer-involving organizations in delivering their own NVW celebrations.  Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Investors Group, Volunteer Canada has developed a wealth or resources and products to help.

The new volunteer.ca/nvw gives users access to information on National Volunteer Week and volunteerism in Canada, easy-to-download campaign promotional materials, a media toolkit to help maximize media attention around your own celebrations, and our 2009 line-up of purchasable recognition products to help you say “thank you” to your volunteers.  In particular, I hope you will take the time to browse through the hundreds of photos and videos that have been submitted by individuals and organizations who wish to recognize Canada’s volunteers.

We invite you to join us in celebrating National Volunteer Week this year as we honour volunteers across this nation. For questions around the campaign, please contact Volunteer Canada by email at [email protected] or by phone at 613-231-4371 / 1-800-670-0401.

Sincerely,

Ruth MacKenzie
